After School Care

Inspiring a Love for Learning, Even After School Hours

School may finish for the day, but a child’s opportunities to explore, create, play and discover do not have to. Children from different schools can spend meaningful afternoons here without stepping into another formal classroom.

A thoughtful place to spend the afternoon

More Than Somewhere to Stay After School

The hours between the end of school and the end of the working day can be difficult for families to manage. TFS offers a structured but relaxed environment where children can shift gently from their school day into rest, play, creativity, movement, reading and social time.

Children from any school can join. The aim is not to keep every child constantly busy, but to use the afternoon purposefully while leaving enough room for choice, recovery and independent exploration.

What an afternoon can look like

No Two Afternoons Need to Look the Same

Children are not expected to perform the same activity at the same time. The afternoon can respond to age, interests, energy levels, group dynamics and the experiences available that day.

01

Create

Art, craft, drawing and open-ended making give ideas a form.

02

Build

Blocks, construction toys and puzzles invite planning and problem-solving.

03

Move

Games, outdoor play and age-appropriate physical activity create room for movement.

04

Read

Independent reading, shared books and quiet library time are always welcome.

05

Make

Simple cooking and practical, hands-on experiences connect children with everyday life.

06

Listen & express

Music, storytelling and conversation make space for voice and imagination.

07

Rest

Younger children, and anyone who needs it, can slow down with rest or quiet time.

08

Play

Unstructured free play lets friendships, ideas and interests develop naturally.

Freedom within a caring rhythm

Children Don’t Need Every Minute Programmed

A productive afternoon does not have to be a timetable filled end to end. Children also need opportunities to choose, become absorbed, spend time with peers, read quietly, build something, simply play or rest after a demanding school day.

This balance reflects TFS’s wider respect for the child: freedom within appropriate boundaries, room for concentration and confidence that can grow through everyday choices.

Explore the Montessori philosophy

Reading has a place here

A Quiet Corner and a Good Book

Children are encouraged to explore books suited to their reading ability and interests. They may choose from books available at the campus or bring one they enjoy from home.

There is no test at the end and no requirement to read on command. The intention is to let reading become associated with curiosity, comfort and personal choice.

Designed for different ages

One Programme. Different Needs at Different Ages.

A two-year-old and a twelve-year-old should not experience the afternoon in the same way. The broad programme adapts its rhythm and possibilities to the children present.

A gentler rhythm

Younger children

Predictable routines, nurturing supervision, rest, sensory play, simple creative work and movement.

Choice with discovery

Growing explorers

Building, puzzles, art, reading, collaborative play and practical activities that follow emerging interests.

Room for initiative

Older children

Independent reading, projects, games, conversation, problem-solving and self-directed activities.

Activities and routines may vary by campus, child, age group and programme availability.

An illustrative rhythm

From School-Day Energy to a Calmer Evening

An afternoon might move through these moments. This is an example, not a fixed timetable, and the atmosphere remains intentionally less rigid than a formal school day.

  1. 01Arrive
  2. 02Settle in
  3. 03Snack
  4. 04Choose & explore
  5. 05Move, create or read

Supporting working families

A Practical Solution for Working Parents. A Meaningful Afternoon for Children.

Convenient for parents should never mean compromised for children.

Dependable weekday care, extended afternoon hours and flexible daily or monthly options help families plan. The model works because the child’s experience remains central: a supervised environment, familiar rhythms and worthwhile ways to spend the time between school and home.

Ordered and accessible Montessori-inspired environment prepared for independent activity

An Environment That Respects the Child

After School Care is not presented as a formal Montessori curriculum. Its environment and approach are, however, influenced by the same respect for children’s independence and development that informs TFS.

Prepared spaces, purposeful options, freedom within appropriate boundaries, mixed social interaction and respect for concentration help children participate in the afternoon rather than simply be managed through it.
